Former French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas recently told syrian news outlet SANA that plans to topple the Syrian Assad-government were in the making prior to the outbreak of the “crisis” that has now spiraled into an all-out civil war.
Dumas, speaking on the Syrian situation, stated that prior to the outbreak of sectarian conflict within Syria, he was approached by two individuals at a party in London, asking the former French Foreign Minister “if he would like to participate in preparations for an attack on Syria to topple the government in it”, Dumas told SANA on July 1..
“He said he refused this offer, but events proved that they were serious about what they said at that evening.”

In the end, the US intelligence community assessment released by Washington yesterday to justify an attack on Syria amounts to this: There is no confirming evidence that a chemical weapons attack occurred on August 21 in Syria, or if one occurred, that it was carried out by the Syrian military.
Newspapers have been warning that Washington would be unable to point to a smoking gun and had no hard evidence to back up its charges against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. Nothing in the official assessment disconfirms this.
The assessment is a judgment, based on an opinion that a chemical weapons attack occurred and that the Syrian military is the only agent in Syria capable of carrying one out.
Others have a different view. The UN special commission of inquiry into Syria announced in May that it had strong suspicions that opposition forces had used chemical weapons. Speculating…

US Strike on Syria: No Hard Evidence, Insincere, Illegal

Political scientist Ian Hurd, writing in the New York Times, scotches the misconception that there is a legal basis for a US attack on Syria. Because Syria does not belong to international conventions prohibiting the use of chemical weapons, there is no “legal justification in existing law” for US military action, Hurd writes. Even if Syria had signed onto these conventions, the treaties are enforceable only by the United Nations Security Council, and not by the United States acting unilaterally or with allies. Indeed, an attack on Syria would be illegal. [1]

COUNTERATTACK: THE EVENING OF THE SAME DAY, AT THE PREFECTURE
Tuesday 11 December, the justice system will decide whether to authorize destroying Le Chat Teigne. In reaction, if the police attack the ZAD this week, the evening of the same day, meet at the Prefecture near Le Tabor in response to the call “Against the airport and its world: They destroy our place of organization, we will occupy theirs!”

WEEKLY MEETING: Tuesday 11 December at 7:30 PM (usually it’s on Mondays) there will be a GA, as each week, to pass on information on what’s going on at the ZAD and discuss together what we can do from Rennes (supplies, organization of travel to and from, actions, etc.) Everyone who’s interested, whether organized into collectives or not, is welcome! More than 70 people came on Monday.

Equipment can be left at the Maison de la Grève if it’s not too big. Big items can be stored at the Elabo. For example, we’re told there are “2 bicycles, wheels, tires, cans of spray paint, and pillows at the Elabos in Rennes. It’s all under a kind of metal pavilion, out of the weather.”

En Grèce, un médecin et activiste est menacé d’expulsion
Il est peut-être difficile pour beaucoup de gens, et en particulier les Américains, d’imaginer qu’un médecin puisse se faire expulser de chez lui, avec sa famille, parce qu’il n’arrive pas à payer son loyer. Mais en Grèce cela peut arriver. Giorgos Kosmopoulos est médecin.
Et pas n’importe quel médecin. Chirurgien thoracique, il a étudié sous le célèbre Pr. Christiaan Barnard en Afrique du Sud au Heart Transplant Center de l’Université Groote Schuur, au Cap. Il a tenu le poste de Maître de Conférences à la faculté de chirurgie cardiothoracique à l’université de Witwatersrand à Johannesburg et a dirigé le service de chirurgie thoracique au centre hospitalier Agios Savas d’Athènes. Il a à son actif 3 535 interventions en chirurgie cardiothoracique.
Giorgos Kosmopoulos est également fondateur de StopCartel TV, pionnier du Livestream et l’un des rares streamers bilingues qui rendent compte de la situation en Grèce. Demain matin 7 décembre, le Pr. Kosmopoulos et sa famille de six personnes sont menacés d’expulsion de l’appartement où ils demeurent depuis 14 ans.
Mais où se trouve Giorgos Kosmopoulos ce soir ? Il est en train de suivre en direct en streaming les manifestations dans le centre d’Athènes. Car en dépit de ses problèmes personnelles, il estime de son devoir de streamer et d’archiver les heurts entre la police grecque et les manifestants qui se rassemblent pour commémorer le meurtre d’Alexandros Grigoropoulos à l’âge de 16 ans, le 6 décembre 2008.
Activiste depuis sa jeunesse, Le Pr. Kosmopoulos a grandi sous le régime des Colonels en Grèce et est entré en résistance à l’âge de 17 ans, au début de ses études en faculté. Pendant la décennie qu’il a passée en Afrique du Sud, il a milité contre l’apartheid et a survécu à deus grèves de la faim, l’une de 26 jours et l’autre de 30 jours.
Un drame personnel dans sa famille l’a fait revenir en Grèce, où il habite actuellement. A l’âge de six ans, son fils Christopher a reçu une balle dans la tête, suite à quoi il a perdu la vision dans un oeil et la moitié de la vision dans l’autre oeil. Les médecins avaient dit que Christopher avait perdu en même temps la moitié des fonctions cérébrales et avait une meilleure chance de réussir son éducation dans sa langue maternelle.
La famille est retournée en Grèce et Christopher a intégré une école spéciale. Après un mois, l’école a dit à la famille que Christopher n’avait pas besoin de ce traitement spécial. Il est entré dans une école primaire normale où il a bien travaillé. Il a continué ses études au lycée en ensuite en faculté. Christopher est aujourd’hui économiste et s’est même présenté aux élections législatives sur la liste de SYRIZA.
Alors qu’il dirigeait le service de chirurgie thoracique à Agios Savas à Athènes, les premières coupes salariales ont été imposées aux professions de santé. Il a demandé s’il pouvait prendre une retraite anticipée à pension réduite. On lui a dit qu’il y avait droit et il a donné sa démission. Il a touché sa pension pendant six mois mais ensuite les paiements ont tout simplement cessé. Le gouvernement l’a informé que son éligibilité à la retraite n’était finalement pas acquise. Il lui restait alors seulement deux mois pour réintégrer son poste. Mais il n’y a pas réussi, et il a tenté de créer son cabinet à titre libéral. Mais entre-temps les Memorandums d’austérité de la Troïka’s étaient adoptés, et les Grecs ne pouvaient plus se permettre de se faire soigner par la médecine libérale; il a dû fermer son cabinet. Il a alors redemandé un poste de médecin de santé publique, et au bout de plusieurs mois d’attente on l’a nommé à un poste loin d’Athènes, dans le Péloponnèse occidental. Le salaire proposé était très bas, et déménager avec toute la famille l’aurait mis en grande difficulté. Il a alors demandé à être affecté à un poste dans la région d’Athènes. A l’heure qu’il est il attend encore, car la machinerie du secteur public en Grèce s’est entre-temps arrêtée net. Il pourrait attendre très longtemps ce nouveau poste. 40% des emplois du secteur public sont à nouveau voués à être coupés.
Entre-temps, les nouvelles procédures d’expulsion accélérée qui font partie des multiples mesures – certaines à l’apparence anecdotique, d’autres flagrantes – qui saignent lentement le peuple grec, ce médecin exceptionnel et journaliste citoyen dévoué a été informé qu’il doit être expulse de son domicile. Dans beaucoup de pays européens, il est illégal de procéder à des expulsions pendant les mois d’hiver. Mais ce n’est pas le cas de la Grèce d’aujourd’hui – cette Grèce devenue laboratoire de la doctrine néolibérale. C’est pour cela que le Dr. Giorgos Kosmopoulos fait tout pour informer le monde de la détresse où se trouve son pays, en dépit du silence et de la complaisance des médias dominants.
Il a parlé de cette procédure d’expulsion ce soir pendant son émission en Livestream:
“Nous nous préparons à une désobéissance civile pacifique demain. Nous ne tolérerons pas qu’on nous éjecte violemment du domicile où nous vivons depuis 14 ans. Si on nous impose cette expulsion, nous résisterons et exprimerons notre désobéissance. Nous ne leur permettrons pas de pénétrer dans notre maison. Ils pourraient aller jusqu’à user de la violence et de jeter nos affaires dans la rue. Nous espérons que des camarades viendront nous soutenir. Nous n’avons peut-être pas intérêt à dire en ligne ce que nous entendons faire. Tout se passera en ligne et en direct. Vous qui regardez depuis les USA, il vous sera difficile de regarder vu le décalage horaire.
Mais le monde doit être conscient du catastrophe humanitaire qui se déroule en Grèce. Des milliers de familles grecques sont sans abri et personne ne semble en être conscient. On vous prie de faire ce que vous pouvez pour faire passer le message et d’aider à sensibiliser les gens.”
La famille Kosmopoulos a demandé un sursis à l’expulsion jusqu’au 13 janvier afin de pouvoir trouver un nouvel appartement et mettre leurs possessions à l’abri.

News and a repeat of the call for resistance this weekend
Le Rosier and La Sécherie have been granted a stay on their eviction.
The dates are, respectively, 15 November and 27 December. This news does not affect the call that was made for this weekend of 27-28 October. For two weeks, since the State, the PS and Vinci began sending their troops to evict and expel, support in the form of word and deed has been flowing in and, that is very encouraging. With this invitation, we hope that the support will take on even more consistency and strengthen our ties. That is what will happen as we defend, all of us, the people and the places that are a barrier against their planned destruction. By choosing to assemble, instead of submitting to the expulsions, we demonstrate our determination and reaffirm that we are strong in resisting them.
This weekend, we call on everyone to come and enrich the spaces of resistance, the encounters, and the diverse energies that keep us going. The more numerous we are, the better we will be able to unite our practices and turn the places threatened by eviction and expulsion into spaces that are protected against the gendarmes (“weapon-people”) and the developers.
